Dr. Howe is the owner and lead consultant for Howe and Associates Consulting. Dr. Howe enjoyed her 41 years in education inspiring, leading, innovating, educating and transforming educational leaders, schools, and school districts. She lives her passion to help each leader become the best they can be and in turn help each student reach their potential.
Dr. Howe has taught students at the elementary, middle, high school, and university levels. She has been an educator and administrator in rural, suburban, metropolitan, and urban districts. She is known for taking on the tough issues, innovating and transforming the schools and districts in which she served. As superintendent, Dr. Howe successfully led her districts through the AdvancED District Accreditation Process, using the framework for continuous improvement as a transport system for transforming the districts. Ultimately each district chose the New Tech Network's Instructional Framework as their transformative instructional model.
A passion of Dr. Howe's is service to education and to the community. Throughout her 41 years in education she has served in a variety of local, state, and national capacities, including:
Throughout her career, Dr. Howe has been recognized at the national, state, and local levels for her achievements and contributions to education. In 2018 Dr. Howe was awarded the Circle of Corydon Award and Dr. Howe was nominated for this Governor's Award by Indiana Representative Michael Aylesworth. The award is for Hoosiers who have "demonstrated in life and in service to the people of the state of Indiana, the qualities exemplified by our state's greatest citizens," those who have made remarkable contributions to the betterment of Indiana and its people. She was also awarded the Lorin A. Burt Outstanding Educator Award by the Indiana School Board Association with a nomination from the Tri-Creek School Board and supporting letter from former President of the Rochester School Board. Dr. Howe was inducted into the Northwest Indiana Society of Innovators in 2016 for the transformation of the instructional program that led to the installation of solar arrays on each school campus, freeing up approximately $250,000 per year in the district's General Fund for the next 30 years. Also in 2016, the District was awarded the Apple Distinguished Program for innovation that integrated technology in the collaborative, project-based instructional process. Dr, Howe received the AdvancED National Innovation Award in 2011 for increasing high school academic test scores, graduation rates, dual credits through the transformation of the instructional process to a collaborative project-based, technology rich instructional model. Dr. Howe was a recipient of the National School Board Association Technology + Learning "20 to Watch" Award in 2010. In 1999 Dr. Howe and team of educational leaders received the NEA-UAW-Saturn Award for exemplary labor-management relations.
At her retirement as Superintendent of Tri-Creek School Corporation, Dr. Howe indicated that her greatest legacy was the people. She hoped she had inspired them and provided them with skills, knowledge, and opportunities to fulfill their potential in order to inspire, lead and innovate for students and teachers.
- Construction of an Advanced Manufacturing Facility that included a solar array dedicated in spring 2018
- Developed a solar project with 6,026 solar panels over 4 schools completed in summer 2017, that will offset over 80% of our costs from the general fund by around $250,000 per year over 30 years
- Developed Alternative to Suspension and Expulsion Program thereby keeping students in school which led to a graduation rate increase from 87% to 99.3% for Tri-Creek School Corporation in 2015 and remained over 96% since
- Completed career and technical education pathways and integrated them into the academic program so that we increased CTE funding from approximately $430,000 to $1,200,000 over 6 years
- Increased dual credit courses from 2 to 44
- Increased the number of students earning dual credits from 89 to 1151
- Increased the number of dual credits earned from 46 to 2897
- Lead 2 school districts through transformation to the New Tech Instructional Model
- One of inaugural 3 school districts in Indiana to transform to the New Tech Framework (2007)
- First school in Indiana and nation to implement a complete conversion of a comprehensive high school (First graduation class 2011)
- Lead 2 school districts through the AdvancED accreditation process with high scores
- Implemented Balanced Calendar for Rochester Community Schools in 2007
- Developed partnership with IVY Tech, and built a Learning
- Center, in which IVY Tech rents half, in Rochester - completed in 2011
